In what is rumored to be a four team trade, the Sox could end up with Miguel Tejada at short, while getting rid of Manny Ramirez. The proposed four way would involve the Mets, the Orioles, the Devil Rays and the Sox. All parties in the trade would end up with new players, remaking each team.
ESPN
The Mets remain interested in acquiring Manny Ramirez and are paying close attention to the Miguel Tejada situation in Baltimore, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. One possibility is a multi-team swap in which Mets pitcher Kris Benson would end up in Baltimore, Tejada in Boston and Ramirez with the Mets.

When asked by Johnny Damon for advice on his free agency, Manny Ramirez told Damon to go to New York. So not only are we paying Manny $20 million per year to whine and complain, he is making sure that our free agents don’t come back either. Can we work a trade for Manny to the Royals?

The Red Sox have picked up John Flaherty from the Yankees for to sole purpose of catching Tim Wakefield. This makes it a total of three catchers on the staff that are old enough for baseball social security. According to the Boston Herald, the Sox are
shopping
catching prospect Kelly Shoppach to bring in either a short stop or a center fielder.
On other center fielder news, the Giants are reportedly shopping Steve Finley, whom they recently acquired from the Angels. Without a doubt, that would be one of the worst ideas for the Sox to follow. It’s already been a horrible offseason anyways and the addition of a near 40 year old center fielder would be the cherry on top.
One last tidbit of information. Johnny Damon got his Yankeee
cut

Now that we have had our day of belittling by the Yankees fans, it is time to move on about Johnny Damon. He left. He was offered a bigger contract by another team and he went with the other team. There was not anything that could be done to save him from leaving. At least, not without giving up the farm. We can’t compete dollar for dollar with the Yankees.
Who plays center now?
The Boston Globe has a
rundown
of the possible options to take Jesus’s place in center field.
Coco Crisp
, Cleveland: Indians don’t plan on dealing him after they missed out on Nomar Garciaparra, who they pursued as an outfielder . . . Rumors persist the 26-year-old’s name did indeed come up in discussions with the Red Sox, and the Indians might reconsider for the right package of pitchers . . . Batted .300 with 16 homers, 69 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in outstanding 2005 season, his third full year in the majors . . . Switch hitter and deft bat handler who could fill Sox’ need for a leadoff hitter . . . Played left field last season, but played center in ‘04 and has the glove to handle the job every day.
Jeremy Reed
, Seattle: Mariners might be willing to send him to Boston for Bronson Arroyo or Matt Clement, according to some reports . . . Batted .254 with 3 homers and 45 RBIs in 141 games as a rookie in ‘05 . . . Line-drive hitter who was considered a mild disappointment after much hype in minors . . . Scouting reports are mixed: some say he projects as a Steve Finley type, others don’t expect him to ever hit with power . . . Prized piece acquired by Mariners in Freddy Garcia deal in ‘04 . . . Has excellent range and instincts in center field, and has an above-average throwing arm.
My personal choices would be Coco Crisp or Jeremy Reed. They are young and we do not yet know their full potential.

Johnny Damon has signed on with the New Yankees, leaving the Boston Red Sox searching for a replacement outfielder. This is good. It will allow Boston to seek out temporary help in the outfield whilst a more permanent solution comes to fruition. Damon signed for 13 million per year over four years and with the addition of the Mike Lowell salary and paying off Renteria to go away, I don’t think that the Sox could afford it.
While this is a boon for the Yankees, the Sox could very well spin this into a good thing. Let’s not forget that in a year or two, Andruw Jones will be available on the FA market, all while the Yankees are overpaying for an aging Johnny Damon.
Yankees add Damon to potent lineup
The New York Yankees grabbed center fielder Johnny Damon away from the rival Boston Red Sox, reaching a preliminary agreement Tuesday night on a $52 million, four-year contract.
Details of the deal were still being negotiated and Damon must pass a physical, a baseball official said on condition of anonymity because negotiations were not yet final.
Damon fills a double void for the Yankees, giving them a speedy center fielder who can cover ground and a leadoff hitter to top a star-studded lineup that also includes Derek Jeter, Gary Sheffield,
AL MVP
Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui and Jason Giambi.
Bernie Williams’ defense declined significantly over the past four seasons. And while Damon’s arm is not much better, he does cover a lot of ground, which is important in Yankee Stadium.
Agent Scott Boras had been seeking a seven-year contract for Damon. The offer Damon accepted was essentially the same as the deal Matsui agreed to with the Yankees last month.

The fight over the 2004 World Series ball has been moved from the court room to an arbitrator. Doug Mientkiewicz, who has maintained ownership of the ball since Kieth Foulke flipped it to him for the victory has agreed to arbitration over the ball. Personally, I feel that it does belong to him. He has possessed it for this length of time and should be compensated for it in some way.

Quiet and humble Bill Mueller has officially left the Red Sox after signing a two agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers. This stings a little as Mueller was a great third baseman. He had two crucial hits and batted .492 in the World Series victory, but with the addition of Mike Lowell, there really wasn’t a place for Mueller in the infield.
Bill Mueller and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed Wednesday to a two-year contract worth about $9.5 million, reuniting the former AL batting champion with Grady Little and Ned Colletti.

The Sox are going with a GM by committee approach this year, and I am guessing that the team has forgotten the whole closer by committee fiasco of 2003. The surprise of all of this is that Theo Epstein is slated to return as an “advisor”. It has all the makings of him running the show with a new title and potential stake.

Today is the day when a virtual waiting room consumes my day. Well the morning at least. Sox Pax, basically four tickets to Red Sox games throughout the season. I think each pack comes with a ticket to a Yankees game, and then a few other scrub games. My wife keeps asking me if I have gotten through yet, and it has only been 25 minutes. I think she is more impatient than myself.
Update:
Ended up with tickets to eight games in all. 2 of them against the Yankees in great seats.
